Warm introductions for a job search: an example of asking for a referral through a friend

This is an example. The people in it are made up, to show how Grapevinee’s features fit together. It is not a member’s story.

Who is Sam?

Sam is an example: a product designer looking for a new job. Sam knows that a word from someone inside a company counts for more than an application, but not who knows whom.

How does Sam turn a contacts list into a short list?

Sam imports a contacts file and picks only the people worth asking; only those are saved. Sam adds a note to each: where they work now and how they met. A cluster called Job search, set to Only me, keeps them together, and only Sam can see it.

How does Sam find who could introduce them at a company?

Sam searches a company name in Find a path and sees which connections can introduce them to someone who works there, among friends of friends who haven’t turned off being found. It’s a Pro feature (pricing).

Sam asks their friend Lena for the introduction, with a line about why. their friend Lena decides first: the designer at that company sees the request only after their friend Lena approves it, and then the designer at that company decides. A shared conversation opens only when everyone has said yes, and if someone says no, nobody is told who. Introductions happen between Grapevinee members.

How does Sam keep the conversations going?

Sam sets a rhythm of every 2 weeks for the people helping with the search. When a grape starts to dim, it’s time for a thank-you or an update; logging the message makes it bright again.

What stays private?

The people Sam adds, the notes and the clusters set to Only me are private to Sam’s account; other members never see them, and Grapevinee never contacts the people Sam adds. When Sam asks for an introduction, the friend sees the request, and the person Sam wants to meet sees it only after the friend approves.

Can I do what Sam does?

Yes. Create an account, add the people you already know, and connect with a few friends using your link or QR code. Find a path is part of Pro. The help page answers the rest.
